Image of DRT bus.Your library card and the Summer Reading Clubs are your tickets to free travel on Durham Region Transit this summer! All elementary school-aged children (kindergarten to grade 8) who register will be able to ride DRT buses at no charge in July and August, using their library card as a transit pass with a valid sticker. cover of the girls they left behind.The Girls they Left Behind by Bernice Thurman Hunter is a wonderful story about a young teenager doing her part for the war effort in the 1940's in Toronto. The main character ends up working in a factory where Mosquito airplanes were built.

This is a great younger read related to our adult Pass the Book selection, The Factory Voice.

When school is out, it's Summer Reading Club time!  This year comes with a jungle theme.

Registration for TD Summer Reading Club will begin on Monday, July 5th and continues throughout the summer. All ages are welcome.

Percy Jackson fans will want to check out this new series by Percy's creator, Rick Riordan. The Red Pyramid, the first in the Kane Chronicles series, is an exciting adventure that grabs you in the first chapter and keeps you turning pages well into the night! Siblings Sadie and Carter Kane are dealing with all sorts of Egyptian gods and demons while trying to save the world and their family in the first of this series. It's a pretty hefty novel - perfect for reading under a shady tree this summer.
