Volunteer Opportunities at the Whitby Public Library

Thank you for your interest in the Whitby Public Library. Our current  volunteer opportunities are listed above.  These are the only volunteer opportunities that we have available right now.  If you are not interested in Reading Buddies, you might want to consider our Teen Advisory group (TAG). TAG members provide input regarding the teen programs and materials that the library provides, and have opportunities to volunteer with various library activities throughout the year.  TAG hours count towards your volunteer hours for school. You do not need to register for TAG, just come to a meeting to see what it is about. Our next meeting is Tuesday, December 13 at 7:00 p.m at the Central Library.

New Teen To The Area

Hi I'm a new teen to the area and I was just wondering if there's a way to earn extra community service hours at the Brooklin Branch library.
I read into the TAG program and am quite interested.
Just wondering how to apply, what qualifications are needed, and whether this program takes place at the Brooklin Branch as well.

Volunteer Opportunities

Hi, thanks so much for your interest in the Whitby Library.  The Brooklin Branch uses teen volunteers for its Reading Buddies program.  This program pairs teen volunteers with children in grades one through four who need help with their reading.  Volunteers are expected to commit to one hour a week for eight weeks, and must also attend a one hour training session.   This program will be starting up again in October, and volunteer applications will be available at the Branch in early September, and interested applicants may be contacted for an interview.

As of right now, only the Central Library has a TAG program, but Brooklin teens are still welcome to apply for that program in September.  Details about the TAG program and how to get involved will be available on our library website and Facebook page in late August or early September. The Brooklin Branch also offers many interesting programs for Teens, and while you won't receive volunteer hours for them, you will have a lot of fun!

If you have any additional questions about programs at the Brooklin Branch, I would encourage you to ask the staff at the Information Desk the next time you visit, as they would be happy to answer all of your questions. You are also welcome to leave additional comments here.

Volunteer Opportunities for grade 7

Hi there!

We have a Teen Advisory Group for students aged 12-19. The T.A.G meets once a month and does a variety of activities including the creation of a teen newsletter, helping to develop our collections as well as offering program ideas. If you are interested in becoming a member of this group, please fill out an application form (which can be found at the Main Floor Information desk) and we will set up a time for an interview.

Reading Buddies

Hi, I am looking to getting some volunteer hours in, and I saw a reading buddies program, and I was wondering if it runs currently this summer? I am a french immersion student as well so I am able to help with french reading as well.

Reading Buddies

Hi there!

We are not currently looking for Reading Buddies volunteers at this time, however, if you are still interested we will be accepting applications around the beginning of December.

Volunteer with reshelving books or something

Hi, do you have any volunteer jobs for like reshelving books or something like that?

Volunteer positions with the library

Currently we offer two volunteer programs, one of which is Reading Buddies and the other is the Teen Advisory Group. Reading Buddies pairs up a high school student with a child in grades 1-5. As a volunteer, you help the younger buddy practice reading as well as play literacy based games. However, no volunteers are needed at this time. The Teen Advisory Group meets once a month and helps develop teen services within the library. Please feel free to fill out an application which can be found on the Main Floor Information Desk.

If you are interested in re-shelving books, this is a paid position within the library. In order to apply, please drop off your resume to the Borrower Services desk.

Age?

Hello, i am currently looking for a job, and was wondering what age you hire at?

Re: Age?

To apply for a page position at the library, you need to have completed Grade 9.  We do not have any positions open at this time but you can drop off a resume at any branch.
